Marske Hall in Yorkshire Dales near Richmond is being sold for £11million

Marske Hall and the Swaledale Estate have a unique reputation in the racing world as the home of the 18th century stallion Marske, who is believed to belong to the bloodline of 98 per cent of all Thoroughbreds including Red Rum, Frankel and Desert Orchid.

The Yorkshire Dales National Park The authority rejected plans by project developer Ian Morton to convert the hall into an exclusive wedding venue and aparthotel in 2021. An appeal was also rejected by the planning inspectors in March.

Local residents were concerned about possible disruption from numerous guests and there were fears that the listed hall would suffer irreversible damage. Mr Morton claimed the hall had a long history of events involving shootings and that his plan would create local jobs and tourist facilities.

The hall has now been put up for sale by Leeds brokers Christie and Co, who say the property could be used for weddings or activities abroad.

They add: “The Hall itself is currently being converted into bespoke luxury apartments whilst The Stables is already being marketed as excellent rental accommodation. Sawmill Cottage is also nearing completion as a stunning holiday accommodation or private home whilst the surrounding property could be used for a variety of leisure development options including lodges, caravans or camping cabins, or could also be used for weddings or activities out in a beautiful and natural scenic setting .
