Martin Scorsese to direct the Gangs of New York show

Deadline has announced that Martin Scorsese will direct the second half of an adaptation based on Herbert Asbury’s (1927) book, Gangs of New York. In the report, a new report indicated that Brett Leonard, famous for his work on The Walking Dead, The High Winter Sun, The Taboo and The Apple TV+ Show Shantaram, is writing the show’s script becomes.

Martin Scorsese directed the original story in 2002.

In addition to directing the show, Scorsese will also be one of the show’s producers along with Chris Donnelly and Rick Yorn. The proposed show Gangs of New York is being planned by Miramax Television. Though it’s said to be based on new characters, it won’t be a remake of the original film.

In 2002, the multiple Oscar winner directed a book adaptation of a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis and Cameron Diaz. The supporting roles were played by Jim Broadbent, Brendan Gleeson, Henry Thomas, John C. Reilly, Stephen Graham and Eddie Marsan.

The Asbury novel storyline is planned for the Gangs of New York show, which will feature new characters.

The film was written by Jay Cocks, Steven Zaillian and Kenneth Lonnergan. The film Gangs of New York grossed over $190 million on a budget of around $100 million. He received over 10 Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, First Screenplay and Best Actor. The award-winning author has been nominated for five Golden Globe Awards.

Prior to this show, Scorsese was hired by Miramax and GK Holdings to study Gangs of New York in 2013. According to reports, this show was intended to show the beginnings of organized crime in the United States while also revealing the rise of organized crime in New York, Chicago and New Orleans. Scorsese believed in the announcement that when it comes to producing a two-hour film, a television series allows you the time and creative freedom to read such stories.

Set in the 19th century and bearing the same name as rival New York gangs, the Asburys novel is a myth of supremacy. The novel is non-fiction and draws on the real characters of that time.

Scorsese’s most recent work includes the documentary Personality Crisis: One Night Only, which premiered at the New York Film Festival, and an upcoming feature film, Killers of the Flower Moon, which premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. The Killers of the Flower Moon, a crime drama film set in Oklahoma and set for release on Apple TV+, will star Leonardo DiCaprio, Brendan Fraser, Robert DeNiro, Jesse Plemons and Lily Gladstone. He will direct Devil in White City with Keanu Reeves.

The show is not at home at the moment. Despite this, the developer is pitching it to premium cable and streaming services in hopes that one of them will pick it up. But given the director’s ties to Apple TV, he may be able to convince the studio to record the show. Apparently Apple TV+ recently announced the trailer for the upcoming movie Emancipation with Will Smith.
