Massive rumor killer about AEW’s interest in signing the former world champion

Despite criticism, the huge list of AEW is constantly being added to. Many fans are demanding that the biggest names skip from promotions like NJPW, but according to Fightful Select, this former IWGP world heavyweight champion is unlikely to skip anytime soon.

AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door introduced many American fans to some of the top stars living in Japan. While most hardcore wrestling fans already recognize most of the talent, the pay-per-view has drawn many fans into a far broader world of wrestling.

After Combative selection, Rumors about Tony Khan’s talks with Jay White are false. After speaking to the star himself, The Switchblade claimed that not only was this wrong, but rumors that his contract wouldn’t expire until 2025 were also false.

A previous report on Jay White’s contract suggested there wasn’t much time left for his deal, but a definitive date has yet to be announced. Despite this, many online fans believe The Switchblade will find its way into All Elite Wrestling sooner rather than later.

While AEW hasn’t approached Jay White recently, Tony Khan was reportedly interested in him before creating the promotion

Tony Khan’s efforts to start All Elite Wrestling initially involved a few names that didn’t make it into the promotions. Notably, Khan held a meeting with CM Punk in 2018, where the veteran turned down his proposal to form AEW with him.

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer NewsletterTony Khan approached Jay White back in 2018.

“In 2018 White was asked about his contract status as he was a guy that was interested in as he was very good and people from All Elite Wrestling have worked with him in New Japan and ROH.” (H/D: in the ropes)

How different could the promotion’s landscape have been if Jay White had been one of the originals in all elite wrestling? With the details of his NJPW contract status appearing to be a well-kept secret, fans may have to be very patient to see how The Switchblade makes its home in the United States.
