Matt Gaetz Has Had Enough of Deadly Fentanyl Crisis, Officially Calls for Bombing Mexico

Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida took his rhetoric up a notch on Wednesday when he insisted it was time the United States took dramatic action to stem the flow of fentanyl across the southern border.

“Bomb Sinaloa. No kidding,” he tweeted.

Gaetz’s YouTube page featured an expanded video of his comments during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on an airstrike on Mexico’s drug cartels. He compared his proposal to the US military’s response after the September 11 attacks.

“I know us all [recently] Think back to September 11, 2001…and you think of thousands of Americans needlessly dying, and then we go to every Central Asian cave in about 20 years of war…and I think of the tens of thousands today [American] Lives we keep losing in every community across our country, and we seem to be clinging to our pearls at the suggestion that maybe we could consider dropping some Tomahawk missiles in the Sinaloa Mountains, where we know that fentanyl manufactured,” Gaetz said in the video, which appeared under the headline “Should America Drop Tomahawk Missiles on Cartel Mountains?”

Along with his succinct comment, Gaetz released a video clip Wednesday of similar comments he made in the House of Representatives.

“Today there was a discussion about fentanyl. And it annoys me every time I hear someone talk about fentanyl overdoses because nobody overdoses on fentanyl because I don’t think nobody’s really looking to get some fentanyl for a good time,” Gaetz said on Twitter.

Gaetz noted that American demand ensures that other parts of the drug war will never succeed.

Is Joe Biden responsible for the fentanyl crisis?

“I understand why it’s hard to prevent cocaine from coming into the country. People in the United States love using cocaine, they look for it, they pay large amounts of dollars for it. And that would be something that would be difficult to stop. But since people aren’t keen on using fentanyl as it’s something we don’t want in our country, we should absolutely be able to stop it.”

Gaetz said the border was a sagging ruin because political leaders wanted it that way.

“[T]The only reason we aren’t is [that] We deliberately allow our border to be dismantled, not by accident, not because of a lack of skills or unsolvable problems, but because there are some groups on the right and left who believe that they would be better off economically if we could only raise millions of they let people in and depress Americans’ wages,” he said.

“And the cost they are willing to pay for it is the funerals and the deaths and the lives broken as a result of fentanyl poisoning. Because it’s not an overdose. It’s intoxication that happens,” he said.

The concept of bombing Mexico to eliminate drug labs hit the news in May after former Secretary of Defense Mark Esper wrote his tell-all book about his time in the Trump administration.

A New York Times report citing the book said Esper claimed Trump asked him more than once in the summer of 2020 if the military could “launch missiles into Mexico to destroy the drug labs.”

Esper quoted Trump as saying, “They have no control over their own country.”

Trump said that “we could just launch a few Patriot missiles and shut down the labs quietly,” adding that “nobody would know it was us,” according to the Times excerpt.

The comments created the usual cloud of dust, prompting Donald Trump Jr. to respond on Twitter.

“I’m still trying to understand the recent media outrage that my father may be planning to attack Mexican drug cartel manufacturing facilities in Mexico… Is this supposed to be a bad thing???” Donald Trump Jr. Posted.
