Megan Moroney Shares A Refreshing Take On Being Unapologetically You In New, “I Love Me”

This is a JAM.

Megan Moroney just dropped them brand new Gun made of roses EP, and for me it’s a no-skip tracklisting of six songs that are honest, real and just plain sassy, which is what I always like.

She’s holding nothing back and there’s one song that’s a shining example of her unabashed ability to be exactly what she wants, and that’s actually the very first song on the project, “I Love Me”.

Don’t let the title fool you because while I think the idea sounds conceited at first glance, there’s a lot more to it.

The chorus is my favorite part, where Megan encourages the listener to engage with the parts of who they are that make them unique, and if someone doesn’t like it, it’s not your problem to deal with it:

“I love me so you don’t have to
Don’t think nobody asked you
For your unwanted opinion,
It’s my world and you’re just in it

If I’m not your thing
Go find yourself something else to drink
I’m not for everyone, so if I’m not for you
I love me so you don’t have to”

The line that it’s not for everyone, and actually the concept of the whole song, reminded me a lot of Kacey Musgraves’ “Cup of Tea” from her 2015 masterpiece pageant material.

“I Love Me” is just so uncompromising and I can’t even really put into words how much I appreciate the fearless writing and message at the heart of this song.

It’s also super catchy and fun to sing along to and I’m definitely going to add it to my getting ready playlist and send it to all my friends… I mean, it’s cheesy, but as the old saying goes, If you don’t don’t love yourself first, who else will?

I think we all need a reminder from time to time that it’s okay to be different and celebrate the parts about ourselves that make us unique, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a funnier one than this one :

Megan previously released the single “Barber,” that I’ve been listening to non-stop for two weeks:

Do yourself a favor and check out the whole EP, but… you won’t regret it.
