Miguel Almiron allayed Newcastle’s injury fears with incredible performance
Almiron suffered a hamstring injury in training in March. Howe has now revealed initial investigations have revealed worrying results and Newcastle feared the striker would be sidelined for an extended period.
But Almiron’s relentless efforts in training and rehabilitation – with the help of club physio Daniel Marti – plus a couple of useful trips to Barcelona meant the winger missed just four games.
He came off the bench in the Aston Villa defeat and has featured in every game since, but returned to his best with a brilliant performance in Thursday night’s 4-1 win over Brighton.
The 29-year-old caused plenty of trouble for the Seagulls and set up Newcastle’s decisive third goal with a superb 89th-minute assist.

Howe was delighted with Almiron’s performance and the groundwork was laid in his absence.
He said: “It is definitely worth commenting on his professionalism and his work.”
“He sustained a harmless-looking injury. The injury actually came from shooting in practice, but on examination it was pretty bad.”
“We were concerned we wouldn’t see him again for much of the season but he’s worked incredibly hard with Danny Marti, one of the physical therapists here.”
“They worked closely together. He went to Barcelona for some injections but the work and dedication he put into getting back as soon as possible was great to see.”
