Mikel Arteta takes ‘responsibility’ as Arsenal’s Premier League title fight ends with a whimper

Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal of the game as the Gunners suffered defeat and duly handed the Premier League title to Manchester City.
It was an arduous performance from a young Arsenal side who dropped points to Southampton, West Ham and now Forest in the latter stages of the season.
While the away side enjoyed plenty of possession at the City Ground, all too often they didn’t make it, creating a gap against a Forest side who hadn’t conceded a goal since early February.
While Arsenal were in control of possession, it was the architect of their own demise as captain Martin Odegaard’s loose ball was parried by Morgan Gibbs-White, who later released Awoniyi for the only goal.
“Congratulations to City on winning the championship and of course a really sad day for us after everything we’ve done during the season but now we have to face reality,” said Arteta.
“Today we conceded a goal away from home, another huge chance away from home and we weren’t good enough to save it.
“We could have played three hours and felt like we didn’t have enough. So, [we must] Be honest, it’s my responsibility and I have to take it.”
