Mom Goes Viral on TikTok for Going Back to Work 12 Days After Giving Birth – Gets Massive Support

Motherhood is difficult, demanding and challenges even the ablest mothers. No mother should be forced to return to work just days after giving birth. Maternity leave is necessary because babies depend on their mothers to grow and feed them.

Rebecca, a 26-year-old American, is the subject of today’s article. She made a film and released it on TikTok, a truly heartbreaking film showing how she works and is unable to be with her daughter in the NICU due to the inefficiency of the system.

Eden, Rebecca’s baby, was delivered prematurely at 27 weeks. Eden was placed in the NICU to help with her development as she was a premature baby. That’s hard enough for any mom to face and endure. However, things took a turn for the worst when she was forced to return to work just 12 days after Eden’s birth!

This heartbreaking film shows the desperate and worried this new mom is, unable to care for her newborn while she tries to make ends meet.

Rebecca says in her video:

“You return to work 12 days after the birth of a preterm baby at 27 weeks, so you can spend what little maternity leave you have with her when she is eventually discharged from the NICU.”

“They try to pump every three hours at work, but they’re understaffed.”

“8 weeks after giving birth, your milk supply is dwindling.

“Do you have milk ready for her when she comes home?”

“How do other NICU parents treat their children?” How can anyone afford to stay at home in the NICU?

“How do you deal with guilt when you have to work and can’t be with your child?”

As she tries to get on with her day at work, the utter trauma and sadness on Rebecca’s face is palpable. Postpartum is a challenging time for mothers; it can range from sadness to decreased milk production, among others. This young lady, however, did not give up.

Rebecca received incredible support from around the world after her video went viral on TikTok, demonstrating the true power of social media. People asked if they could give her money to help, and strangers, acquaintances and people she’d never met helped her in any way they could – a real show of empathy in the digital age.

She enthusiastically thanked her fans in her video and seemed much less anxious and calm:

“I think it’s crazy that so many of you have expressed your support, reached out and donated. Taking on such a thing is not something generous people like you should be responsible for.

Jessica was finally able to hold her baby and be with her in the NICU after an extraordinarily difficult time as a first-time mother. She made a video to express her gratitude for everyone’s love and support. Eden can be seen having a good rest and making cute baby noises while her mother cradles her in her arms.

In her video she wrote:

“TikTok… because of you I don’t have to choose between being in the NICU with my daughter or paying the bills. I am forever indebted to you.”
