Morrisons says “non-customers” have been using the Foss Islands car dealership

Euro Car Parks have applied to York City Council to install two ANPR cameras and 30 signs in Morrisons car park on Foss Islands Road.

The motion says access to Foss Islands Retail Park will remain unchanged but cameras will record cars entering and exiting. In addition, seven different signs warn drivers about this.

Such devices will efficiently manage parking space usage, which is necessary because “the parking space has historically been used recklessly by non-customers of the store.”

The application goes on to say, “The system installed allows visitors to Foss Islands Retail Park to use the car park while also recognizing Morrisons store customers and ensuring there are spaces available for their stay.”

“This benefits both the shop and the local town as it ensures the car park is not constantly overcrowded with long term parkers using vacancies, freeing up space for the shops paying customers and also freeing up parking for visitors to Foss Islands Retail Park will be provided.”, York.”

It added that the cameras and signs would be discreet and would not detract from the nature reserve’s character.
