MORE than half of adults prefer an action-packed holiday to a relaxing break – skiing, snowboarding and mountaineering are among people’s top activities.

In a study of 2,000 vacationers, 57% of respondents said they only consider short breaks packed with activities.

Rock climbing, wild swimming and white water rafting were some of the other top vacation activities that respondents would like to do.

While 25% said they would book a skiing or snowboarding holiday.

While not all vacationers specifically book an adrenaline-packed vacation, 43% admit they have sought out adventurous activities on more traditional getaways.

The study, commissioned by Snow+Rock, also found that 40% would not book a trip if there weren’t plenty of opportunities to spend time outdoors, while exactly half of those surveyed said vacations make them feel most adventurous.

Jose Finch, managing director of the winter sports retailer, said: “Holidays are the perfect opportunity to unwind and switch off, but sometimes a change is just as good as a break.

“When you’ve taken the time and effort to travel far from home, it makes sense to make the most of the new landscape and new experiences that are on offer.

“And for many thrill-seekers in Brits, those experiences include snow-capped mountains, whitewater and breathtaking views.”

It found that 48% get bored easily on a sun lounger and 35% need to try new things to keep busy while away.

Of those who prefer an action-packed vacation, two-thirds (65%) said they get bored of sitting around during quieter breaks.

When deciding where to go on vacation, 73% say location is the key, although one in four (23%) who want to try skiing or snowboarding don’t know the best destinations.

Conducted via OnePoll, the study found that 23% had previously been on a winter sports holiday.

And 16% who have never been to the slopes said they would like to do so in the future, although 26% of them are unsure of the type of gear they would need to purchase.

When buying clothing for an adventure or outdoor holiday, exactly one in five values ​​the highest quality gear, while 22% like to try cheaper gear.

And for snow sports lovers, nearly half (47%) said the epic mountain scenery was what they enjoyed most about their ski or snowboard vacation, while 41% cited time outdoors as a highlight, while 39% cited the balance between activity and love relaxation.
