Mother’s Boyfriend Convicted in Brutal Death of Toddler

Robert Miller, 44, from Eunice, will be sentenced in two weeks after a peers jury found him guilty in the 2013 death of his girlfriend’s 18-month-old girl.

In 2015, according to our news partners at KATC, there was a mistrial in the case. During this process, it was revealed by medical experts how horrific the infant’s death was.

“She had several cerebral hemorrhages. That’s what you might see in a car accident,” testified Jevin Bordelon, who examined Renee LeJeune at the Acadian Medical Center in February 2013, according to The Advocate Victoria. I’ve never seen anything so heavy.”

Little Victoria died of blunt force trauma to the head, says St. Landry County District Attorney Chad Pitre. According to The Advocate, witness testimonies revealed that Victoria was found without a pulse and abrasions on her lips, moth, head and knees and her body temperature was 94.2 degrees.

Miller was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Under Louisiana law, involuntary manslaughter is defined as:

1. The negligent homicide of a human being.
2. The killing of a human being by a dog or other animal when the owner has recklessly and negligently confined or restrained the dog or other animal.

Because the victim was under the age of 10, under Louisiana law, Miller faces a minimum of two years in prison, but no more than five years.

If the victim killed was under the age of ten, the perpetrator shall be sentenced to forced labor detention of no less than two and no more than five years without probation, probation or a suspended sentence.

The scheduled sentencing date for Miller is August 18, 2022 and will be conducted by Judge Ledricka Thierry.
