MultiVersus Season 1 has been delayed

Warner Brothers’ Brawler title MultiVersus enjoyed early success in its free-to-play beta phase. However, it seems that Player First Games developers have encountered some problems.
Notably, August 9, 2022, the date that signals the start of the game’s first season, has been pushed back.
Player First Games reported on Twitter that the Season 1 release date and the character Morty Smith are out Rick and Morty Has been delayed.
The studio didn’t elaborate on the decision, but assured the community that they would bring additional information as soon as possible.
Given that August 9th was considered the end of the beta phase, this delay was quite unexpected among the game’s early adopters.
Why is Season 1 of MultiVersus delayed?
While it can be disappointing for the community that MultiVersus is already experiencing delays, Player First Games has stated that players will be rewarded for their patience.
The studio said on Twitter that it is committed to “delivering new and exciting content,” which could be a reason for the upcoming delays. While this is just speculation, technically the game is still in the Beta/Early Access phase of development. If so, the developers may be looking at other areas of the beta before getting Season 1 into full swing.
MultiVersus is not a game without bugs. In particular, it has been reported that one of the tutorial stages with Knockback Influence is buggy as it does not allow players to complete it as intended.
This might not be the only bug, as developers are still working through player reports to ensure the game is as trouble-free as possible ahead of Season 1’s official launch.
Game balance is also something to consider in a fighting game of this magnitude. Lebron James was the most recent addition to the list, and every time a character is added to a game there are balance considerations to be made.
The title also uses perks to increase character and team skills. The developers want to ensure that these perks work as intended and are not exploited in any way.
There are so many aspects of the game that need to be considered prior to the Season 1 release. There’s no doubt that Player First Games wants to make Multiversus as complete as possible before Season 1 begins.
This could very well be a cautionary move on the part of the studio. If the release schedule went ahead as intended, the launch of Season 1 could have resulted in potential conflicts or unintended game crashes.
For example, if certain perks or characters are unbalanced in some way, the inclusion of Morty might have made things even more complicated. This, in turn, may have also created competitive issues when it comes to Season 1 progression. This would tip the balance in favor of certain players or result in only certain characters being considered viable in the meta.
Given that Warner Bros. and Player First Games want MultiVersus to be as successful as possible, early delays might be preferable to a big mess later.
In any case, players just need to keep an eye on the Player First Games social media pages for updates on the status of the game. Hopefully there will be an announcement for Season 1 later this year.
