Mumbai City FC bolster attack by roping in Alberto Noguera

Indian Super League (ISL) club Mumbai City FC announced the signing of Alberto Noguera on Saturday 16 July. The 32-year-old joins the Islanders on a one-year contract until May 2023.

Noguera became a part of Atletico Madrid in July 2009 after breaking through the ranks at Getafe. He was called up to the first-team squad to train under Quique Sánchez Flores and made his La Liga debut against Levante UD in 2011.

Noguera left Spain in 2012 to pursue his profession abroad. He had brief stints with Blackpool in England and FC Baku in Azerbaijan. But in 2014 he returned to Spain to play for CF Trival Valderas, CF Fuenlabrada and Lorca FC in the Spanish third tier.

The versatile player helped Lorca FC climb to the second division back in 2017. He then moved to CD Numancia and was subsequently loaned to Racing de Santander in the third division until the end of the 2018/19 season.

The Spaniard joined India’s Goa FC in 2020 and has been one of the league’s most influential midfielders over the past two seasons. During his time at former club Goa FC, Noguera won the 2021 Durand Cup and recorded four goals and eleven assists in ISL.

After completing all the formalities of his deal with Mumbai City FC, Noguera was quoted in a press release as saying:

“I am proud to be part of Mumbai City. There is ambition and a thirst for victory at this club, and the philosophy here is to play attacking and beautiful football. I’ve seen it from the outside in my two years at ISL and now I’m ready to contribute to the club’s success.

“Also, I’m happy that we can play in front of our fans and personally I can’t wait to experience life and football in Mumbai and India for what it really is. I hope I can live up to the expectations of our fans and make great memories with them.”

The Mumbai City FC head coach is delighted to welcome Noguera on board

Meanwhile, Mumbai City FC head coach Des Buckingham has shared his joy at Alberto Noguera. He was quoted in the same press release as saying:

“Alberto is an excellent addition to our team and over the past few seasons has consistently demonstrated his ability to influence games to suit our style. He’s a very experienced player who will provide additional guidance to the group while also giving us the opportunity to develop and adapt our way of playing. I am very happy to have Alberto with us and look forward to working with him.”

With a few signings, Mumbai City FC will be ready to regain their lost form.
