“My partner of 10 years is having another birthday”

Former American tennis player Pam Shriver has wished her longtime doubles partner Martina Navratilova a happy birthday.

In a heartfelt message on her social media, Pam Shriver celebrated Martina Navratilova, who turned 66 on Oct. 18. The 60-year-old quipped that the Czech-American legend was “way ahead of her”. Shriver also wished Navratilova success similar to her victories on the tennis court.

“My partner of 10 years, Martina Navratilova, has another birthday (she is way ahead of me). May she have many happy returns just like she did on the tennis court,” she said.

Martina Navratilova, who has amassed 18 singles major titles, has teamed with Pam Shriver to win an amazing 79 doubles titles, including a record-breaking 20 doubles Grand Slams.

The American duo, who have won seven titles at the Australian Open, four at the French Open, five at Wimbledon and four at the US Open, are also the only couple to have completed a calendar-year Grand Slam in doubles as a team – one Achievement They Have Shriver and Navratilova also managed to win eight consecutive doubles Grand Slams between 1983 and 1985, which remains their highest streak.

Tennis legends Martina Navratilova and Pam Shriver have followed the rise of young stars in women’s tennis very closely. The duo were delighted with World No. 1 Iga Swiatek’s recent triumph at the San Diego Open against Donna Vekic, giving the Pole her eighth title of the season.

18-time Grand Slam champion Navratilova appreciated Swiatek for a monumental year.

“What a year Iga had!!! Chapeau (bravo),” she remarked.

Pam Shriver, on the other hand, admired Iga Swiatek’s resilience in the final against Vekic.

The doubles icon also praised the world no. 1 for showing maturity and being able to admit the handicap she caused on the pitch and was glad to have seen the tournament in person.

“I love the apology for the impulsive handicap that wasn’t necessary. Fixing mistakes is a mature thing. I loved my decision to watch a regional WTA, first as a fan, then I happened to become a coach. I LOVE TENNIS!!” she said.
