With an estimated record jackpot of $1.9 billion, Monday night’s scheduled Powerball draw left players confused.
According to CNN, that’s because Powerball officials didn’t draw numbers. As of Monday night and early Tuesday morning, the Powerball website only stated that the drawing would be held on “May 7th”. November 2022 at 10:59 p.m. EST” and added “Results Pending” under the message, prompting a wave of skepticism on social media.
“We look forward to drawing the winning numbers as soon as possible,” the Multi-State Lottery Association said in a statement early Tuesday morning. “Like the rest of America, Powerball is eager to hold its world record jackpot draw; However, protecting the integrity of the draw is paramount, even if it means another delay.”
Lottery officials issued a statement explaining why no drawing took place and accused a “participating lottery” of failing to fully process its “sales and play data,” resulting in an unprecedented delay in the drawing of the life-changing Powerball prize.

The statement ended by asking players to “hold their ticket”.
Finally, later Tuesday morning, Powerball officials pulled the winning numbers and updated the Powerball website.

In a tweeted statement, the California Lottery elaborated on the unusual and extremely rare delay in drawing numbers.
“Tonight’s Powerball® drawing has been delayed due to a participating lottery requiring additional time to complete required security protocols. Powerball has strict security requirements that all 48 lotteries must meet before a drawing can take place,” California Lottery tweeted in a two-part statement.
It added: “Once the necessary security protocols are in place, the drawing will be conducted under the supervision of lottery security officials and independent auditors. The winning numbers will be published as soon as they are available. Thanks for your patience.”
