Carla Fletcher opened new Nails by Carla Louise store on Commercial Street, Norton last month (April).
It offers nail design, waxing and coloring. There are plans to also offer eyelash services in the future.
“I was just about ready to get my own space and put my name in a store,” Carla said.
“It was the best decision I’ve ever made.”

The former Norton College student, who lives in Thixendale, discovered her talent for nail art during the first Covid lockdown of 2020 after admitting she’s not the type of person to sit idle.
“I’m one of those people — I have to do something.”
Carla began practicing her designs on herself and her mother first, which led to her training at the Body and Sole gym in Malton.
She described discovering her talent as an “accident,” but said, “It was the best accident I could have ever had.”

Carla found working during the changing Covid restrictions and lockdowns frustrating.
Since then, however, her confidence has continued to grow, she said, and she’s looking forward to her job.
“I love coming to work,” she said.

She said the best thing about the store is that her presence lets people know she’s available.
“I was a bit hidden before.
“I like being in the public eye.”

She found the shop through its previous owner, Emma-Lea Stone of Just Barbering – someone who she said supported her throughout the process.
“I couldn’t have done it without her,” Carla said.
“She was fantastic. She knows this store better than anyone. She supported us, for which I am so grateful.”
As the Gazette & Herald reports, Just Barbering has now moved into a new unit a few doors down.
Looking ahead, Carla said she has no plans to hire staff as she prefers to work alone.
“I’m very happy to be alone.

“I prefer a personal conversation with my customers. I like to think that I am very approachable.
“The plan is just to keep busy – it really is. Keep people in.”
Carla said her schedule continues to fill up, but there are still spaces available to book through Nails by Carla Louise’s Facebook site or in the store.
