Yes, Nancy Pelosi is right (for a change)

It is inherently the right decision for the Speaker of the US House of Representatives not to give in to Chinese government bullying and to visit Taiwan, thereby reaffirming the US position that Taiwan is a separate and independent state. Despite claims that she is withdrawing the trip, CNN first broke the news this morning that a flight to Taipei, Taiwan’s capital, is on her agenda.

This is extremely important.

The freeze — the first for a speaker of the US House of Representatives in 25 years — is not currently on Pelosi’s public agenda and comes at a time when US-China relations are already at a low ebb.
The Taiwanese official added that she is expected to stay in Taiwan overnight. When exactly Pelosi will land in Taipei is unclear.
The US official added that Defense Department officials are working around the clock to monitor all Chinese movements in the area and create a plan to protect them.
During a regular State Department briefing on Monday, China warned of the “egregious political implications” of Pelosi’s planned visit to the self-governing island, which China claims as part of its territory, and reiterated that its military “will not stand idly by.” Beijing sees its “sovereignty and territorial integrity” threatened.

More Americans are now living paycheck to paycheck

CNBC News has a new report on how bad inflation has gotten: More and more Americans, even those making $200,000 or more a year, are living paycheck to paycheck.

As of June, 61% of Americans — approximately 157 million adults — Lived paycheck to paycheck, according to a new LendingClub report. That’s up from 58% who reported a living paycheck in May. A year ago, 55% of adults felt they were too thin.

Even top earners are struggling to make ends meet, the report says. Of those making $200,000 or more, 36% said they were living paycheck to paycheck, a jump from the previous month.

Another recent survey by consulting firm Willis Towers Watson found that an estimated 36% of those earning $100,000 or more reported living paycheck to paycheck.

Again, even if we’re not in a recession, it’s almost impossible for Americans to believe we’re not.

Hispanics split evenly between Democrats and Republicans

I’m not quite sure how many times I have to shout that from the rooftops, but it should be in fire red letters with sirens at Democratic Party headquarters.

This is apocalyptic and another sign that the Democrats are in the worst trouble they’ve ever been in as a party. It’s more than a nightmare scenario at this point. Decision Desk HQ has favored Republicans for retaking the Senate. The signs are there that November is just going to be awful for them.

Hurricane preparation, what haven’t you thought of?

As word spreads that a hurricane could be threatening the Gulf Coast, we consider what it takes to make life bearable when we’re stuck at home with no power or internet.

In addition to this comfort, we must also think of the many things that we would have to take with us if we were forced to evacuate.

While we all immediately think of things like prescription medication and important papers, there are other things that can come in handy whether we’re stuck at home, a relative’s house, or an emergency shelter. Nancy Pelosi Is Doing The Right Thing
