National Curry Awards 2023: Full list of Northeast winners

Fierce competition saw seven winners from across the region, including Morpeth Tandoori and Vadah, with awards ranging from Takeaway of the Year to Manager of the Year.

The National Curry Awards were first launched in 2019 to promote Asian food companies and the industry’s creative and talented chefs.

This year the awards ceremony will take place on October 16th in the House of Lords, the Palace of Westminster.

These are all the Northeast winners:

  • Vadah, Castlegate, Riverside, Stockton-on-Tees TS18 1BZ Restaurant of the Year – North East

  • Dhamaka, 4 Brockwell Centre, Northumbrian Road, Cramlington NE23 1XZ Curry House of the Year – Cramlington

  • Morpeth Tandoori, 10 Chantry Pl, Morpeth NE61 1PJ Takeaway of the Year – North East

  • Jamdani Restaurant, 3 Front St, Whickham, Newcastle upon Tyne NE16 4JB Restaurant of the Year – Newcastle upon Tyne

  • Shampan Restaurant, 185 Whitley Rd, Whitley Bay NE26 2DN RRestaurant of the Year – Whitley Bay

  • Syed Akki Miah, Spice Lounge, St Nicholas Cottage, Market Place, Durham DH1 3NJ Manager of the Year – Durham

  • Brian Mohan Miah, Cafe Spice Restaurant, 19 Clark’s Yard, Darlington DL3 7QH Chef of the Year – North East

Vadah, winner of the North East Restaurant of the Year award, describes itself as “traditional Indian cuisine with a 21st century twist”.

On the review page TripadvisorVadah has a rating of 4.5/5 from over 1,200 reviews, with one visitor saying: “The place is one of the best in the area when it comes to authentic Indian food. The dishes are delicious and the staff is polite and helpful.” ”

Morpeth Tandoori was named Takeaway of the Year and has been around since 1983. He shares that it was the “first Indian takeaway of its kind in Northumberland. It was a big risk opening it in Morpeth.”

The menu includes everything from Chicken Tikka, Bengal Masala, Honey Pista and much more.

With a Tripadvisor rating of 4/5 it’s a local favorite, as one visitor said: “I just got the chicken tikka masala from here and wow, probably the best I’ve ever eaten if you live nearby or stop by and highly recommend this place.”

The awards ceremony on October 16 will feature winners and guests including chief guest Sir Graham Brady, MPs, hospitality industry executives and more.

The National Curry Awards is organized by Mr. Abdul Ahad Chowdhury, who congratulates all the award winners for their hard work and dedication to the industry.
