Neighbours star launches new soap- Entertainment Daily

As Neighbors wraps up (sobs!), many of the stars of recent years are looking back on their time on the show.

Among them is Lisa Armytage who, during her heyday in the 80’s, taught Dr. Beverly Marshall was on the soap opera.

As Beverly, Lisa was married to Jim Robinson for two years and became her stepmother to street legends Paul, Scott and Lucy Robinson.

Slapped on set

Lisa’s co-stars at the time included Jason Donovan, Guy Pearce and Kylie Minogue.

The actress reveals there were some memorable moments with the budding superstars on set – not least when she accidentally attacked one of them.

“There was a scene where I had to punch Jason in the face,” she explains. “You’re supposed to retreat when you do that, so the punch doesn’t really affect you when you do that. Anyway, I forgot. Poor fellow ended up with that red welt on his face!”

“He was in a very good mood,” she laughs. “He’s a lovely man.”

neighborhood mania!

During the period Lisa starred as Beverly in 1987-88, when the show was topping the ratings in the UK and Oz, everyone seemed to be gripped by Neighbors fever.

So much so that it was pretty overwhelming at times.

“There were things I realized I couldn’t do anymore,” she says. “We went to a school play with my husband and two children and were besieged by elementary school children. We had to flee!”

“When I went shopping for clothes, I had dark glasses with me. Have you ever tried buying colored clothes with dark glasses on?!”

New soap opera role in Riverside

Lisa was reminiscing about her neighbors’ days as she takes on a new soap opera role in the audio drama Riverside, which launches this week.

The 14-part series is available to download and Lisa plays Ruby, one of the residents of a small riverside community.

“It’s so nice to be part of a soap opera again,” she says. “Riverside has this upbeat ‘neighbor’ feel to it. A sense of community at a time when we all really need it.”

Riverside is the last of many roles for Lisa since her departure from Neighbors three decades ago, and she’s hoping the current cast will embrace life after Ramsay Street as well

“It’s a big deal to lose all your security, your structure,” she sympathizes. “Change is inevitable. The only way to seize it is to seize the opportunity to do other things.”

Riverside is available on Audible, Amazon and iTunes.
