Netflix announces first live sporting event: a celebrity golf tournament

The teams in which athletes from Formula 1: Drive to Survive (currently filming the sixth season) and Full of momentum (Filming for the second time) includes: Formula 1 drivers Alex Albon (Williams Racing), Pierre Gasly (BWT Alpine F1 Team), Lando Norris (McLaren Racing) and Carlos Sainz (Scuderia Ferrari); and PGA Tour golfers Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas.
A Netflix press release states: “In a battle of wheels and iron, four pairs consisting of a Formula 1 driver and a PGA Tour professional will compete in an eight-hole match, with the top two teams up to advance to the final hole, which is where they will play. “We are fighting for the chance to win the first Netflix Cup title.”
The fact that this is Netflix’s first live sporting event is sort of the buried reason in all of this; There is no information about whether the streamer plans to do this The Netflix Cup as a launching pad for more programming like this, but it seems like the streamer is looking for new ways to promote its ever-growing, Netflix-specific sports programming.
