LEVC, the Chinese-owned company building London’s new black cab, has unveiled a petrol-electric hybrid van based on the iconic cab.
With a claimed 80-mile electric-only range and an additional 297 miles with the engine on, the LEVC LCV is intended to replace the diesel-powered, one-ton vehicles that currently deliver goods from out-of-town distribution centers to addresses within the US capital.
The vehicle was unveiled today at the Institution of Engineering and Technology by LEVC CEO Jörg Hofmann and London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who hailed the van’s compatibility with the city’s clean air efforts.
“I’m delighted that LEVC is applying the lessons learned from designing and building London’s electric black cabs to this new van,” said the Mayor.
“The development of clean, sustainable electric vehicles is imperative to address our air quality emergency and the climate crisis. London’s commitment to clean air drives our quest for a positive electric future for all.”
