Newcastle United are sure they yearn as Howe promises ‘final push’

Hosting Brighton tonight before hosting Leicester City at St James’ Park on Monday, the Magpies know two wins will guarantee Champions League football next season.

Only Liverpool and Arsenal have won at Tyneside this season and the atmosphere under the lights of St James’ promises to be sizzling as Newcastle attempt to cross the finish line.

Howe hopes the home field advantage will benefit his side.

“Yes, of course that’s down to preference,” he said when asked about the importance of the two home games at such a crucial stage of the season.

“We love playing here. It’s great to have everything under control, but we don’t take that responsibility lightly.”

“It’s great to have but we have to use it, which is easier said than done because we’re up against good opponents. This is the situation we would have wished for at the beginning of the season.”

If Newcastle don’t get maximum points in their next two home games, they are likely to face Chelsea on the final day of the season and need a result. If that’s the case, Howe says his players will be ready.

“However it goes, we have to adapt. If that’s the way it’s supposed to be, we’ll fight to the last ball, that’s the only message I can convey,” he said.

“I can never predict, I don’t have a crystal ball. I just want my players to do everything they can to be successful. I’m very proud of the group. We need a final push.”
