Newcastle United’s Steve Harper wakes up after bleeding
Newcastle United academy director Steve Harper is “awake” after suffering a subarachnoid haemorrhage, the club have confirmed.
The former Newcastle goalkeeper, who made 157 league appearances for the Magpies, is currently recovering in hospital.

The club said it was sending him and his family “love and best wishes.”
A Newcastle United spokesman said: “Newcastle United sends love and best wishes to Steve Harper and his family after the club’s academy director suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage on Monday.”
“The club is pleased to report that Steve is awake and recovering well in hospital.”
Harper was appointed as the club’s academy director in July 2021 after serving as interim academy manager earlier that year.

In a statement on the club’s website, a Newcastle spokesman said: “Steve, his family and everyone at Newcastle United extend our heartfelt thanks to the NHS staff for the incredible care he is receiving.”
“Steve will receive the club’s full support as he recovers.”
“Everyone associated with Newcastle United sends their best wishes to Steve and his family for his continued recovery.”
