Nicole Scherziner stars in the new West End production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard
The musical, with songs composed by Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, is based on the 1950 film of the same name.
Scherzinger, 44, who originally rose to fame as a member of the Pussycat Dolls, will play Norma Desmond, a silent film star who dreams of a triumphant return to the big screen.
Lord Lloyd Webber originally saw the film in the early 1970s and went on to write the musical adaptation for the stage, which premiered in the West End in 1993.
A number of well-known stars have portrayed Desmond on stage in the past, including Patti LuPone, Petula Clark and Glenn Close, appearing in productions of Sunset Boulevard on both Broadway and London.
The new show is directed by Jamie Lloyd and will run at the Savoy Theater for 16 weeks beginning in September.
Lloyd, who previously directed productions of The Seagull, Cyrano de Bergerac and Richard III, described Sunset Boulevard as one of Lord Lloyd Webber’s “most exciting, complex and atmospheric scores”.
Commenting on Scherzinger’s cast, Lord Lloyd Webber said: “Nicole is one of the finest singers I have ever worked with and I can’t wait to join her and the rest of this brilliant team to embark on this exciting show.”
Scherzinger previously starred in Lord Lloyd Webber’s 2014 revival of Cats, where she was nominated for an Olivier Award the following year for her portrayal of Grizabella.
She recently gained widespread recognition singing for King Charles at a concert in the grounds of Windsor Castle after his coronation.
