“NL Soldier” is the latest player to see a huge sum of money land in his PartyPoker account after gaining the upper hand $109 buy-in $150,000 guaranteed Sunday portionj. Day 1 of our flagship event attracted 1,358 players including re-entries, meaning those who finished in the money enjoyed an overlay of $14,200.
The top 231 players saw a return on their investment. Those in-the-money players included our own Matt Staples, who placed 186th for $139.16 plus $62.50 from the bounty prize pool. While it’s cool to double your money, Staples’ total return was about 10 times less than the nine finalists on Feb. 20.
“Sethenak” was the first of the nine finalists to bow out, his ninth-place finish at $1,914 was a reason to be pleased with his performance. “Danvil007” ($2,011), “HVGen5” ($1,886) and “El-Filliponn” ($2,895) were eliminated one after the other, leaving only five PartyPoker players chasing the title and the biggest slice of the $150,000 pie.
Those five became four with the exit of “Prejack” ($3,663) and then three if “Antonionunez” ($6,664) saw their tournament come to an abrupt end. “Dominik K.” ($7,510) crashed in third place sending the Sunday Party into the heads-up stage where both players secured a five-figure sum.
NL soldier and “Bathtub Party” fought for the right to call themselves poker champions. After much back and forth, NLsoldier prevailed and added $6,787 worth of bounties to their $9,434 prize, for a total profit of $16,221. The runner-up had to settle for a not inconsiderable score of $11,062.

Knight1989 drives away with the Sunday Mardi Gras title
This weekend Carnival on Sunday saw his guarantee of increased $50,000 to $75,000, but apparently some PartyPoker players didn’t receive the memo. That’s because 2,973 players were in effect, but all of those $22 buy-ins resulted in a $59,460 prize pool to which we added $15,540 to ensure the $75,000 prize pool was complete.
All that extra cash meant all but two of the nine finalists left after turning $22 into four figures. As is usual in tournament poker, the biggest prizes were reserved for the first two places. The last standing duo were “Knight 1989” And “SmudgeTh3Cat”, The latter, as you may recall, finished eighth at last weekend’s Sunday Party for $1,843.
The main prize pool awarded these two stars more than $4,800, leaving the final bonuses to play with. Knight1989 captured these bounty totaling $1,837 resulting in a take-home price of $6,557, an incredible return on a $22 buy-in. SmudgeTh3Cat took home a total of $5,940.
