North Yorkshire Police Headquarters at Newby Wiske becomes the PGL Centre
The old Newby Wiske Hall near Northallerton has become the newest center for outdoor educational activity provider PGL and offers over 20 different activities.
While retaining the features of the Victorian building, the company has brought a modern, innovative and forward-thinking approach to the rest of the centre, allowing the adventure to begin the moment children step inside.

Anthony Jones, CEO of PGL, said, “We have spent a great deal of time ensuring that every aspect of Newby Wiske Hall is exciting and adventurous for children and a great experience for teachers.”
“With the new indoor concepts and great outdoor activities in the beautiful grounds of the hall, we are confident that this will enrich the lives of young people for years to come.”

Central to the design are accommodation and ladder lounges, with rooms featuring new “bunks,” individual sleeping areas that bring a touch of the outdoors inside, climbing holds to help kids climb onto the bunks, and chalk bags to store personal items. Thanks to the adjustable LED lighting, each child can individually design their own sleeping space. All rooms are en suite and have individually allocated storage space.
For accommodation, the staff rooms have been updated with new bespoke bedding designs, with a mix of single and twin rooms (with a private bed partition) and all have en suite bathrooms. For added comfort, PGL has also ensured that underfloor heating has been installed throughout the centre. For added security, rooms are keyed open, with teachers having master keycards for their students’ rooms.

Outside, there are a variety of exciting activities in Newby Wiske Hall’s 85 acres of parkland. With 20 different activities on offer there is plenty to keep kids active, build confidence and encourage team building.
PGL says they’ve introduced three entirely new activities in the hall, including the Quick Jump, in which youngsters, attached to a harness, soar into the air and fall freely until the harness slows and brings them to a gentle landing.
Newby Wiske Hall has its own central lake and in addition to raft building and canoeing there is the opportunity to try out the new Aquapark in warmer weather.
Exploring the grounds around the arena, PGL’s Laser Tag will see groups working in teams in the forest with their own laser pistols and vests.

Mr Jones said: “We really see Newby Wiske Hall as the blueprint for designing our future centers to ensure there is adventure at every step of the journey.”
“We are delighted with the response we have already received and look forward to welcoming more schools and groups over the coming months and years.”
North Yorkshire Police moved their headquarters from Newby Wiske to Alverton Court in Northallerton in 2017.
