Northern School of Art has received an overall Gold rating in the Office for Students’ Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
The overall Gold rating shows that the student experience and student outcomes at Northern School of Art are generally excellent for students studying undergraduate degrees at the Hartlepool campus.
This rating is awarded for four years and follows a Gold rating from June 2017, which has now been replaced by the new award. The school’s further education provision at its campus in Newport Road, Middlesbrough, has received an Ofsted rating of ‘Outstanding’ since 2009.
Dr. Martin Raby, Principal of the Northern School of Art, said: “Our aim is to provide the highest standards of academic education and practical learning. “We are pleased that the hard work and dedication of our staff, as well as the commitment of our talented students, have secured us an overall Gold rating for our bachelor’s degrees.”
The aim of the assessment is to recognize and promote outstanding achievements by all higher education providers. The current rating is based on the assessment of 228 providers from across the industry.
Dr. Raby continued, “We take our students’ personal development and career readiness very seriously; This feedback is a great confirmation of this work. We continue to provide the high standards of education, innovation and support our region and its talented, vibrant communities deserve.”
“Our work is supported by many partnerships across the creative industries – including the Aardman Academy – and our partnership with BAFTA’s Albert in Education programme, which is designed to equip students with the sustainability knowledge they need for the Need entry into the screen industry.
“Building on recent changes, such as securing Spotlight accreditation for our acting degree and the benefit of having The Northern Film & TV Studios as a neighbour, we look forward to an exciting new chapter for our students and the school and support the development of the creative industries in the region.”
The Northern School of Art is a specialist creative institution providing practice-based education and training for the creative industries at its sites in Middlesbrough and Hartlepool. The school’s Hartlepool campus is adjacent to the Northern Film & Television Studios – the only major film and television production and studio complex in the North East.
