Alexander Isak’s added-time penalty kept Newcastle’s Champions League bid on track in Friday’s 2-1 comeback win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
The Sweden international leveled the score late in the first half after Emmanuel Dennis put Forest ahead at the City Ground.

Isak’s late winner put Newcastle within a point of fourth-placed Tottenham with a game in hand against their rivals for last place in the Champions League.
“We believe and we know that it’s in our hands and we have a good chance,” Isak said.
The Magpies are five points clear of sixth-placed Liverpool with Eddie Howe’s side winning two league games for the first time since the turn of the year.
Isak fired home from the penalty spot in the third minute of added time after Moussa treated Niakhate in the penalty area.
Forest took the lead in the 26th minute after Sven Botman’s back pass was intercepted by Dennis, who passed Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pop.
Newcastle hit the woodwork twice but the game was level at half-time after Isak volleyed a Joe Willock cross in the second minute of added time.
Controversy erupted just after the hour mark when substitute Elliot Anderson appeared to have put Newcastle ahead only for a VAR review to conclude there had been an offside in the build-up.
Newcastle have had a difficult start to 2023 after looking like an unlikely title challenger in the first half of the season.
But the Saudi-backed club’s attempt to secure a place in the Champions League has been boosted by last week’s victories against Wolverhampton and Forest.
The late goal saw Forest beaten at the city ground for the first time in the league since September, leaving the team just two points above the relegation zone.
