NY cop warns illegal gambling team to investigate and gets arrested

17. March
Operators of an illegal gambling website and underground poker room that are said to have earned more than $10 million in five years of operation have been arrested after seven months of undercover surveillance by a trio of law enforcement agencies.
Also involved in the sting was a New York State Police sergeant, Thomas Loewke, who attempted to brief the gambling ring on the investigation. Loewke faces federal charges of corruption and obstruction, and prosecutors believe he has a gambling problem.

Seven men who illegally operated sport700.com and the poker network are facing a range of charges in connection with the arrests. Dominic Sprague and Louis P. Ferrari II are said to have been the leaders of the crew and both have been charged along with Tommaso Sessa with conspiracy and running an illegal gambling operation.
Four subordinates, Joseph Boscarino, Anthony Amato, James Cilvetti and Joseph Lomardo, were arrested on conspiracy and leaking betting information charges. All seven men are from Rochester, New York.
The Department of Homeland Security, the Rochester Police Department and the New York State Police Department all worked together to apprehend the suspects. Surveillance, wiretapping devices, and undercover cops posing as players were deployed in the lurch.
Ferrari was also charged with money laundering. Law enforcement alleges he laundered the poker room and ill-gotten gains from sport700.com through his construction business.
