NYMR release statement after car-train collision at railroad crossing
Ambulance services, including the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, were called to the incident involving the car and train at the level crossing near Newbridge just after 2pm.
The driver of the car was taken to the hospital by rescue plane and suffered multiple injuries.
A spokesman for NYMR said: “We can confirm that a collision occurred around 2 p.m. on Sunday 21 May. A moving vehicle crashed into a generator car at the rear of the train at a powered gate opener (POGO) crossing in Newbridge.”
“The driver of the moving vehicle was taken to the hospital. There were no reported injuries to NYMR passengers or crew.”
The spokesman added that police and emergency services were at the scene.
“The Museum Railway is doing everything in its power to cooperate fully and taking every precaution to ensure the safety of staff and passengers, which is always our priority.”
“Like all such accidents, it is currently under investigation by the RAIB (Rail Accident Investigation Board).”
The spokesman added that the service had resumed at 4 p.m.
