The 2022-2023 NBA season is in full swing and the entire league is looking to replace the Golden State Warriors as NBA champions. And while many of the known suspects are high on the list of favorites heading into the 2022-2023 season like last year, there are also a number of new contenders that have emerged. Here we look at the current NBA championship odds, from favorites to the league’s most interesting longshots.

NBA Championship Favorites

There’s a pack of about seven teams that top the list of postseason NBA championship opportunities. They are the Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets, Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns.

The Warriors and Celtics are standard favorites to win the title next season, having just fought for it at the last NBA Finals. However, there are questions as to whether the Warriors are good enough to get back to the top of the mountain this year. Milwaukee and Phoenix are also expected to be among the last teams, especially if Phoenix trades for Kevin Durant at deadline.

The Clippers and Nuggets’ NBA championship odds are a little less based on recent postseason performance. The Clippers hope to have Kawhi Leonard and Paul George healthy in the playoffs for the first time in years. Meanwhile, the Nuggets are hoping two-time MVP Nikola Jokic can lead them to their first NBA Finals of this era in franchise history.

NBA Championship Dark Horses

Outside of the above teams in the NBA championship odds list, there is a small group of teams with slightly worse odds of winning the title that could do the job. These teams will have a harder time getting deep into the playoffs than the favorites listed above. But these teams all have a chance to be among the last teams in the 2022-2023 NBA season.

The Dallas Mavericks have one of the top MVP Candidates Leading in Luka Doncic who they paired with Kyrie Irving. While they’ve been struggling to figure things out ever since they were placed in the same squad, this duo’s advantage is undeniable. If the Mavs find a fix by the postseason, Dallas could be racing to the title with greater odds.

The Memphis Grizzlies are also an interesting team in the NBA title race. Yes Morant has dealt with injuries and extrajudicial issues this season but this team is electric when he’s on the pitch and at his best. As long as Morant comes back this season, the Grizzlies have a real shot at being one of the last remaining teams this season as well.

NBA championship long shots

After the above teams, every other team in the NBA has NBA championship odds of +2500 or higher. Teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat all have the potential to put together a great couple of months in the postseason. But they also have flaws that could hurt their chances of beating the favorites to win it all.

When it comes to betting on NBA longshots, bettors should exercise caution. Asking yourself if a team actually has a shot at a title is an exercise worth doing before making those bets. But with huge payouts possible from these longshots, their appeal is certainly understandable.
