Odell Beckham Jr. has followed in Tom Brady’s footsteps. While the free-agent receiver continues to recover from an injury, he has earned an interest in two sports franchises: Mexican soccer club Necaxa and Washington DC’s major league pickleball expansion.
Beckham became involved with an investor group led by Al Tylis and Sam Porter. The group fully owns the DC Pickleball team but bought a 50 percent stake in the football team in late 2021.
“The Aguascalientes-based soccer club was valued at $150 million in 2021 when it sold a 1 percent stake through NFT for $1.5 million; the club is currently valued in the mid to low $200m range.”
The ownership group Beckham is now part of includes other celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Justin Verlander, Kate Upton and Mesut Ozil. The 50% of the team not owned by Beckham’s group is owned by Ernesto Tinajero, a prominent Mexican businessman.
Brady and other top athletes have already invested in Pickleball, and now Beckham is following suit. Brady and tennis star Kim Clijsters were part of an ownership group.
LeBron James, Draymond Green, Kevin Love and Drew Brees are also currently involved in the Pickleball ownership.
Will Odell Beckham Jr Sign This Year?
Odell Beckham Jr.’s services were in high demand that year. The Super Bowl-winning wide receiver was recovering from a cruciate ligament rupture, but many competitors were interested in signing him eventually.
However, after a visit to the Dallas Cowboys, it was leaked that he likely would not have recovered in time to make an impact on the field.
At this point in the season, a team would be desperately hoping to recover and learn the playbook in time for the Super Bowl – which would also assume said team had made it this far.
Unfortunately, a cruciate ligament rupture in the final game of the season has a long recovery time, which Odell Beckham Jr. learned firsthand this year. If he recovers next season there will be no shortage of suitors.
