On this date: Travis Tritt released his first ever #1 hit “Help Me Hold On” in 1990.

There’s nothing like your first number 1 hit.
On this day in 1990 Travis Tritt released Help Me Hold On, co-written by Travis with Pat Terry.
He included the song as the second single on his 1990 debut album country club, and it eventually reached #1 on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, becoming his first-ever single to top the country charts.
The song itself is a good old fashioned country ballad in which he asks the girl who is leaving him to sit down and explain what he did wrong after realizing he doesn’t really know what exactly he did , which made her end the relationship.
And of course, Tritt became a ’90s country legend, amassing four more No. 1 hits and 15 Top 10 singles over the course of his career.
Most recently he released his great album Carved in stone in 2021, but it all started 33 years ago today with this country heartthrob:
“Help me persevere”
