A strong start to a promising season.

We are recaping the Peacock Series One of Us Is Lying Season 2 Episode 1 “Simon Says Game On” which contains spoilers.

All eight episodes of One of us is lying season 2 premiered on October 20, meaning viewers can spend several hours uncovering the mystery of who Simon Says is. This is followed by the start of the season murder club in their futile attempts to be normal teenagers again after the events of season one. Of course, they can’t ignore an enemy who threatens to reveal their secret about what happened to Jake.

Recap – what happened in Season 2 Episode 1 One of Us Lies?

The first episode begins seconds later Bronwyn, Nate, Addi, cooperand Janae received an ominous text message Simon says (SS) and lets them know their secret isn’t being kept as well as they thought. At first, the Murder Club doubts that SS has any concrete evidence of what happened on Halloween night, and they decide to ignore their new enemy’s attempt to blackmail them for $5,000. Addy denies the most and Janae worries about her.

Meanwhile, everyone else is trying to put the uncomfortable events of season one behind them. Cooper’s coming out proves to be an asset to his baseball career as he is close to landing a sponsorship deal. His father also seems more open to accepting his sexuality. Briefly as pushy as ever, Bronwyn’s mother helps her prepare for the big Yale interview. However, when she has to go to the actual interview for the prestigious college, Bronwyn gets angry at a question related to the events of last season and walks out. Nate decides to move out of his house after coming home to find his mother drunk.

Addy’s mom is as (not) supportive as she was last season. As the episode progresses, it becomes increasingly clear that the young girl is not taking Jake’s passing too well. To make matters worse, the SS sends her the gun that killed Jake. She asks Janae to get rid of it, but Janae keeps it instead.

Vanessa spends most of the episode live streaming her theories about Jake’s disappearance. She clearly doesn’t believe the story that he murdered Simon and fled to Mexico, so she seems determined to get the “truth” out. In her attempts, she enlists the help of both Maeve and Evan (Bronwyn’s ex from last season). Speaking of Maeve, she reveals to Bronwyn that Janae has been somewhat distant since the kiss they shared, which she finds increasingly disturbing.

In an attempt to restore the school’s good reputation, Principal Gupta has Nate start tutoring Fiona, the girl who revealed to Simon that she had stabbed her teacher. Nate and his new tutor seem to hit it off right away. Another love interest for the Bay View-based bad boy, perhaps?

While most members of the Murder Club try to get on with their lives, Bronwyn sets a trap for the SS by filling a bag with paper instead of money and marking out the meeting place. Unfortunately, Nate followed her and while the two were busy arguing, they both missed their mysterious blackmailer opening the bag and discovering the ruse. The SS sends the group another ominous text, warning them that they have made a “HUGE MISTAKE”.

The end

Towards the end of the episode, Simon Says gets the Murder Club to meet again at the Hollywood Cinema, their old hangout. When they arrive, they find name tags for each of them on the front row seat. SS starts showing video that is deep fake of none other than beloved Simon. Fake Video Simon tells the group that SS wants them to pay for hurting Jake. It was also revealed that SS has video from Halloween night proving that the Murder Club members were in the woods the night Jake disappeared.

The entire episode alternates between today and that night’s flashbacks. We learn that it was actually Addy who pulled the trigger on her ex. As he lay dying, the group considered calling for help, but Brownyn opposed it. She let Jake die, then had Janae and Nate dispose of the body while instructing Addy and Cooper to return to the party and pretend nothing happened. Bronwyn wasn’t sure the Xbox footage between Jake and Simon would exonerate Nate, and she worried the police might arrest her anyway.

In the final scene, Addy, overcome with guilt after Jake’s brother Cole confronts her outside their house, begins dating her ex. As in , he appears to her as an actual ghost. He was scary when he was alive, but he’s even scarier now that he’s dead.
