PAK vs ENG 2022: “They have repeated the same mistakes”

Former Pakistani skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq urged the national team’s middle and bottom teams to improve their scoring rates. The former chief national selector said a target of 175 would have made things difficult for England in the first T20I in Karachi.

England chased 159 with relative ease, winning by six wickets on Tuesday (September 20) to take a 1-0 lead in the seven-game streak. It’s worth noting that only Iftikhar Ahmed reached double digits in the first game between batters between four and seven.

On his YouTube channel, Inzamam lamented the repetition of old mistakes that surfaced and wanted the underclass to take more responsibility. He said:

“Pakistan’s performance wasn’t up to scratch. They should have scored more goals and as usual they repeated the same mistakes. Our top team did well again and the problem is in the lower league as we saw in the Asian Cup too .”

The men in green started their innings well after losing the toss. Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam added 85 runs in 9.3 overs, with the former top scorer on 68 points. However, towards the end of the innings, the team fell apart.

“Things would have been different if Pakistan had had more than 175 on board” – Inzamam-ul-Haq

The 52-year-old claimed England didn’t do anything monumental in the first T20I but Pakistan conceded a few more runs than they should have on the field. Inzamam added:

“Batters coming in 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th place should hit the 150 strike rate. Only then can we reach the goal. It’s not that England played well, but Pakistan were 15-20 runs short. Things would have been different if Pakistan had more than 175 on board.”

Although England struggled a bit on the surface, opener Alex Hales held his innings together. Hales scored a measured half-century while major contributors were Harry Brook, Ben Duckett and Dawid Malan.

The second T20I will take place on Thursday (September 22nd) at the same location.
