A TRAVELER is divided after taking a very strange companion on vacation recently.
Taking pets on trips is becoming increasingly popular, with dogs and cats being the most common companions when traveling with their owners.
However, few people would ever think of taking a fish with them, especially if it meant taking them on a plane.
Still, that’s exactly what traveler Haley Koehn did on a recent trip to Florida.
In a video shared on her Tiktok account (@haleykoehn9), Haley revealed how she got her little yellow betta fish Pluto through airport security and onto her flight.
She explained how she managed to get the creature on board the plane with relatively little fuss.
In the comments, she was asked if she needed to inform the airline before flying with her pet.
She replied, “No, I just went there, they tested his water and then let us through.”
American Transport Security Administration (TSA) rules state that it should be fine to fly as long as the fish is kept in a clear, leak-proof glass or plastic container.
Haley isn’t the only person to have flown a fish recently. One person commented, “My betta flew back and forth to college with me.”
Another added: “I picked up my baby fish from JFK.
“Some fish YouTubers have confirmed that Delta allows fish on flights, but since it’s not common, some flight crews may not be aware.”
However, others were less than pleased with Haley’s decision to take her fish on board the flight.
One wrote: “They let a fish on a plane with that amount of water but took my toddler’s milk…”
Another said: “So can I bring a bottle of water if I put a fish in it?”
A third was concerned for the welfare of the animal, adding: “Betta need heated tanks!”
Passengers have recently been warned to check their luggage before returning from tropical countries to ensure they are not accidentally bringing home exotic animals.
These are the rules for taking pets on vacation.
