Patterson High Student Arrested, Threatened to Shoot Up School

The worrying trend continues for local students to make threats against the schools they attend.

The latest incident came Tuesday when a Patterson High School student was arrested after he was accused of threatening to shoot the school he attends.

According to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, the 16-year-old man was arrested on criminal mischief charges.

Exactly what the student said or posted has not been made public, but apparently the authorities and the school took the threat seriously.

At approximately 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20, school resource officers for the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office advised that the high school should be placed on hold due to the potential threat posed by the youth.

During the investigation, David Spencer, a spokesman for the SMPSO, said it was determined that the student was not armed.

“We still don’t know what could possibly have triggered this threat,” Spencer said.

Spencer also said a text message was sent to all parents to let them know about the incident.

Thank goodness no injuries were reported.
