Phillip Schofield’s brother jailed for child molestation

Timothy Schofield, 54, was convicted of 11 sex offenses involving a child, including two of sexual activity with a child, after a trial at Exeter Crown Court in April in April.

Schofield, an undercover police officer from Bath, Somerset, told jury testimony that he watched pornography with the boy, who was over 16 at the time.

He claimed they masturbated while sitting apart and denied performing any sexual acts on the teenager.

However, after more than five and a half hours of deliberation, the jury found Schofield guilty on all counts by a majority of 10-2.

Avon and Somerset Police later fired Schofield, who had been suspended from his job at Portishead Police Headquarters following his arrest and arraignment, without notice.

Ms Justice Cutts, who sentenced Schofield to Bristol Crown Court on Friday, told him: “You exploited his innocence at that stage of his life for your own sexual gratification.

“It was wrong in every way that you behaved in this way.

“He felt compelled to do as you wanted, trapped and unable to escape. He felt he couldn’t tell anyone and didn’t do so for many years.

“You took away from him the ability to be the teenager he should have been – carefree, relaxed, happy. I realize you were completely obsessed with him.”

The judge praised the boy’s courage in reporting the abuse.

During the trial, jurors heard that in September 2021, Schofield told his older brother Phillip that he and the applicant had viewed pornography together.

In a statement released by his lawyer after the guilty verdict, the This Morning presenter said: “My primary concern is and has always been the well-being of the victim and his family.” I hope that their privacy will now be respected.

“If my brother had ever confessed to a crime I would have acted immediately to protect the victim and his family.

“These are despicable crimes and I applaud the guilty verdicts. As for me, I don’t have a brother anymore.”

Timothy Schofield was convicted of three counts of causing a child to observe sexual activity, three counts of sexual activity in the presence of a child, three counts of sexual activity with a child, and two counts of sexual activity with a child .
