Pilot Makes Emergency Landing In The Middle Of Highway – Women After 40

Landing an airplane requires serious concentration in the best of situations. When an emergency occurs, pilots are not always in control of what is on the ground or where they are. It takes quick thinking and exceptionally calm nerves to survive an emergency landing. And a steady hand to make it as smooth as possible.

This Cessna pilot did just that when he was forced to land on a New York highway. After taking off from a local airport, the plane suffered a mechanical failure. By this point, pilot Jim O’Donnell knew he would have to drive another vehicle on the busy freeway.

Obviously, an airplane taxi on the freeway ahead is something most drivers don’t have and will never experience. It surprised everyone. Tom Lupski saw the low-flying plane coming in his rearview mirror and picked up Jim’s plane as it touched down right in front of Tom’s car.

Luckily Jim had a successful emergency landing. Not only was he able to land the plane smoothly, but he was also able to tow it without major bumps or scratches on his shoulder.

Suffolk County Police Commissioner Stuart Cameron said: “He came in under the overpass. He kind of threaded the needle there, and it looks like he did a pretty good job given the circumstances. He didn’t hit a car and nobody was hurt.”
