Plufl Human dog bed tested: comfortable and cozy
Have you ever looked at your cat or dog lounging peacefully in their fluffy bed and thought: I want to come in there? Me too. I even laid my head on it several times, but it wasn’t quite the same.
I finally know what it feels like to be cocooned in a pet bed. For the past few weeks, I’ve been sleeping, reading, lounging, and eating snacks in the very expensive Plufl, a human-sized dog bed.

Some people have busy schedules that keep them moving. That is not me. I am a deck chair. My hobbies are re-watching Parenthood and scrolling TikTok on a comfy couch with a blanket and a cat or three curled up on my lap. The Plufl offers this comfort many times over and weighs me just right. The first time I got in, I fell asleep straight away.
The base is made of memory foam. Although it looks relatively thin, it is much more comfortable than I imagined. You won’t feel the hard ground penetrating. The foam is CertiPUR, meaning it is made without chemicals like formaldehyde, lead or flame retardants. This is the same certification that some of our most popular organic mattresses have. The cover is made of plush polyester that feels like the softest cat fur and stays relatively cool. It is also Oeko-Tex certifiedThis means it has been independently confirmed to be free of contaminants. On one side of the case there is a pocket for your phone or a book.
The Plufl comes in a very large box but is fairly light. Once unpacked, you should let the base rest for a while before assembling the whole thing. Similar to a regular foam mattress, it needs time to expand and regain its shape after being packaged and shipped. The brand recommends waiting 24 hours, but says people can often get away with less time, and the latter was the case for me. I left it on for a little less than a full work day and it was fine.
Once it’s finished, the two pieces of upholstery need to be fed through the tunnels in the cover. I left them as is, but you can remove some of the filling if you like. It comes with a bag to store the extra stuffing in case you want to put it back.
The pads give it good depth and it’s comfortable enough to support your head without the need for a separate pillow. I wish one end was stiffer or had a back support. It’s extremely easy to lie down in, but not so easy to sit down and recline. I used a stiff pillow like the Quiet Mind Weighted Pillow to support myself, but you shouldn’t have to add an expensive pillow to an already expensive bed. In the meantime, a cheaper one bed rest pillow would probably help.
The price of comfort
Of course, in order for it to fit an adult, it has to be large. It is just over 5.5 feet long (68 inches) and 2.7 feet wide (33 inches). I’m 5’7″ and my husband is 6’8″ so neither of us could stretch out straight in the cushions, but I felt comfortable hugging my legs like I normally sleep anyway, right letting them hang over the edge when I felt like stretching.
There are handles on both ends for moving, and there is Velcro in the box so you can fold it in half and tie the handles together. This is helpful if you need to move it out of the middle of your living room, for example, but it will always be a very large piece of furniture.
