Pogba throwback as Juve star injured after free-kicks

Paul Pogba has suffered yet another injury setback when he took another blow from free-kicks in training, Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has said.

The midfielder made his first appearance for Juventus in last month’s derby win against Torino after a long absence through injury.

The France international has only played twice since returning to Turin on a free transfer from Manchester United last summer.

Pogba missed Juve’s win against Sampdoria on Sunday and faces another break after suffering another injury in training.

“This morning Pogba took free-kicks and felt a stab in his adductors,” said Juve coach Allegri after Sunday’s game.

The club released a statement on Pogba’s fitness on Monday, which said the midfielder had “suffered a slight tear in the adductor of his right thigh”.

The statement added: “He has already begun the rehabilitation process aimed at returning to competitive activity.”

It’s the latest setback for Pogba since his return to Italy after being ruled out of the Europa League game last week for ‘disciplinary reasons’.

Pogba is now unlikely to feature at the start of France’s 2024 qualifying campaign, where they face the Netherlands and the Republic of Ireland at the end of the month.
