Police are searching the Harrowgate Hill Lodge Hotel in Darlington for a wanted man

Local residents who live near the Harrowgate Hill Lodge hotel, next to the White Horse pub, reported seeing a heavy police presence at the facility on Sunday morning (May 21).

Eyewitnesses said they saw five police vehicles in front of the hotel.

One said: “Today when I was standing at the traffic light I saw the police coming down and I wondered what was going on.”

Officials have now confirmed they are looking for a man who is wanted in connection with a burglary in the city and is believed to be staying at the hotel.

He has since been arrested and is currently in police custody.

A Durham Police spokesman said: “Officers visited Harrowgate Hill Lodge on Sunday morning (21 May) after receiving information that a wanted man was believed to be there.

“The man wanted in connection with a burglary in Darlington has since been arrested at another location and remains in custody.”
