Police Officer Goes Viral After Jigging With Baton Rouge Students

A Baton Rouge cop goes viral after setting up the jig in “Jigga City.”

Baton Rouge is known as the home of jigging – “a style of dance that originated in Louisiana where the dancer vigorously shakes his arms while wiggling his knees.”

If you’re already familiar with jigging, you can skip the video portion of this post to get to the good stuff.

Urban Dictionary further describes it as “a strange combination of leg movements, arm movements, leaps and head movements”. Actually, the whole thing is definitely pretty hilarious.

Jigging is a dance style that goes best with “jig music” – also an art form that exists almost exclusively outside of Baton Rouge and throughout Louisiana.

A few jig classics you’re probably familiar with (but not limited to):

Lil Boosie ft. Foxx & Webbie – Wipe Me Down

Mouse & Level – I bet you won’t

Foxx – Jigga Train

HD4President – Touch Down 2 causes hell

BBE AJ ft. Lil Boosie – Doing My Dance (Remix)

Now that we’ve finished this short lesson, let’s look at one of those moments of internet joy that we love to see. This particular viral moment revolves around a police officer who breaks up with a group of cheering Baton Rouge high schoolers for some good clean fun.

Don’t be fooled by the huge “POLICE” vest – this officer knows how to come down; and apparently this all took place on East Baton Rouge School’s Day of Hope, according to Ziqutan Handy’s Facebook post.

The video has been shared hundreds of times so far and the comments are filled with love and positivity after Baton Rouge Police and students shared this particularly funny moment.

Charitie Thomas Branch says her son is in the video and pointed out that this clip is just a preview of the fun times to come when her son graduates next May.

The officer in the video also appeared to engage with the comments, calling it a “pleasure” to engage with the students.

There are plenty of officers who know how to lighten up, despite the stigma that law enforcement is uptight or doesn’t know how to have fun. Just the other day we told you about the Lafayette Police Officer who appeared to block NBA Youngboy in their squad car.

Props to this officer having fun with the kids, as well as any officer who knows how to meet their community on the common ground they share — especially if it’s a dance floor.
