Polyphony Digital is working on the next Grand Turismo game

Gran Turismo 7 was released last year and recently came out with a new update to support the upcoming PSVR. While Polyphony Digital is working on GT7 updates, the studio has said a team is already developing the next installment in the series.

Polyphony Digital typically releases two entries per console.

Kazunori Yamauchi sat on Game Watch on a Japanese gaming page (enlivened by Push Square) to talk about the upcoming PSVR2 update for GT7. Yamauchi revealed during the interview that the next title for the Gran Turismo franchise is currently being developed by Polyphony Digital, but that cannot talk about it in detail.

“Actually, we have a theme,” Yamauchi said when inquiring about the series. “We’ll start work next, but I can’t talk about it just yet. I couldn’t talk much about it.

It’s safe to assume that the studio is still in the earliest stages of pre-production at this point, considering a GT7 was only launched 11 months ago. While it’s usually a lot of work, it’s not very surprising that the studio is working on the next entry since Gran Turismo can usually take a couple of years to develop. The gap between the release of the sport and the 7 of the competition was five years.

Yamauchi revealed that the studio already had a theme for the next game in the franchise.

Polyphony Digital typically releases two titles for each console generation. The PlayStation 4 only had one exclusive title for that console in Gran Turismo Sport, while the Xbox 7 launched simultaneously on the PS4 and PS5 platforms. This studio would create a new one for the PS5 and release it for the end of life of current-gen consoles, so it would make sense that the studio would be able to maximize the hardware capabilities.

It will probably be a long time coming to see the next Grand Tieth game. We estimate that the next entry will come around 2025 or 2026. However, 2023 is looking to be an amazing year for this series as the PSVR2 update continues and the upcoming Gran Turismo movie releases.

The PSVR2 update is free for all players on the PS5 console. VR support is available for all Gran Turismo 7 split-screen races only games. Players also use VR to search for cars at the dealership. The title update will be available on February 22, 2023.

While fans of the series look forward to seeing Marvin Turismo in his life as a feature film. The film is based on the true story of a gamer named Jann Mardenborough who became a professional racing driver after winning the GT Academy competition. Gran Turismo hits theaters on August 11, 2023.

Players are also wishing for the first anniversary of 2013 at the hands of the University of Mexico and March 4th, 2023. Fans are hoping Polyphony Digital will have something to play on its first birthday.
