As the nation continues to grapple with worrying baby food shortages, Americans are increasingly urging President Biden to step in and solve the problem – and he recently reached out to the nation with his plans to address it. Beginning to slam critics who believe he should have acted earlier, President Biden was quick to lay out the plan for his administration to ensure that baby formula is back in abundance in the US sooner rather than later.
Speaking from the White House, President Biden defended his administration’s response to months of baby food shortages, stating that they “acted as quickly as we became aware of an issue.” Biden also hit back, saying the government could only have acted sooner: “If we had been better mind readers, I suppose we would have done it,” he said.
The president also noted the urgency of the issue, stating that the federal government “needs to act both cautiously and swiftly…” to “ensure that we do indeed get a quality product.”
In addition, Biden also posted a video message of his address on his Twitter account with a caption that read:
“I know families across the country are concerned about the availability of infant formula. So yesterday I brought manufacturers together to discuss how we can increase supply as quickly as possible.”
As we previously reported, some states are seeing a bigger shortage than others. Texas has a 53% shortage of baby food products and Tennessee is at 54%. It is also reported that at least 26 states have had shortages close to 50%.
