Pressure points for Dungannon boss Dean Shiels as Carrick Rangers roar back in dominant show

Dean Shiels says his focus is on turning the Dungannon Swifts fortunes around rather than worrying about his job security.

The pressure is building on Shiels after another tough defeat – their ninth in ten Premiership games this season.

Two goals from Curtis Allen and an own goal from Garry Breen put Carrick on the three points and in the top 6.

shields admits Dungannon is in a “difficult” place.

When asked if he felt any pressure, he said: “I feel pressured to get results now. I’m not worried about myself, I’m worried about the team.

“I don’t take care of myself. What’s important to me is improving that today and how we want to improve – that’s all I care about.”

The Swifts have the worst defensive record in the league and came here after beating Glenavon 5-0. Shiels made five changes, but they were still overrun by their hosts.

Allen was the star with his double and he was involved in the third, while Ben Tilney and Andy Mitchell also stood out. It was Mitchell’s effort that led to the opening goal after 24 minutes, when he regained the ball and played Emmett McGuckin, who crossed Allen for a header.

Tilney’s blistering runs had been a feature of Carrick’s game, and another shot down the left led to her second in the 53rd minute.

His pace took him past Cahal McGinty before joining Allen, who was coming home.

Carrick added a third in the 77th minute as more good work from Allen forced a corner and Mitchell’s delivery of Breen came in, while Ryan Mayse’s dismissal for a second booking capped a horrible day for Dungannon.

Carrick moved into the top six and Allen said: “We’re in a good position but it’s about hard work and unity.

“It’s a tough league, we know that and Glentoran last week (a 5-0 loss) showed us we’re a little below full-time teams.

“But the reaction today was good and we’ll try to keep picking up points and see where that takes us.”
