After more than a year of anticipation Prince Harry has announced a title and release date for his memoir. The book, which will be released on January 10th, will be called spare part. The book will discuss the moment he and his brother Prince William walked behind Princess Diana’s coffin in her funeral procession in 1997. It will be released simultaneously with the subtitle in Spanish in the shadow and will eventually be published in 16 languages.
“Penguin Random House is honored to bring Prince Harry’s honest and emotionally powerful story to readers around the world,” said Penguin Random House CEO Markus Dohle it says in a press release. “He shares a remarkably moving personal journey from trauma to healing, a journey that speaks of the power of love that will inspire and encourage millions of people around the world.”
Harry previously announced that he would donate a portion of the proceeds from the book to charity. According to a statement from Random House, which will publish the book in the United States, he is donating $1.5 million to Sentebale, the HIV/AIDS-focused Southern African charity he helped found in 2003. He will also donate £300,000 to WellChild, a charity that supports children with disabilities and their families.
The title, which presumably references his status as a monarch’s younger son, may be a clue to the tone, which Random House described as “raw, unflinching” and “a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-reflection.” Trial and hard-won knowledge of love’s eternal power over grief.”
spare part will be released almost exactly four months after Queen Elizabeth II’s death and accession to the throne King Charles II on the throne. On Wednesday the New York Times reported that Harry had doubts about the contents after his grandmother’s death. Last month, sources said vanity fair that Charles was waiting for the book’s release and the premiere of Harry’s Netflix documentary Megan Markle before making decisions about her future relationship with the royals.
