The Princess of Wales has arrived at the Ukrainian community center in Reading to meet displaced families from the eastern European country.
ate will chat with families supported by the Berkshire center, hear their stories and later participate in an art session with children.
The monthly art workshops allow the Ukrainian children to have fun, build friendships and express their emotions and experiences through a creative outlet.
The center is home to the Berkshire branch of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain, the UK’s largest advocacy group for Ukrainians and people of Ukrainian descent.
Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine earlier this year, the community center has adapted its activities to support Ukrainians arriving in Britain and to deliver medical equipment and humanitarian aid to those on the frontlines.
During her visit, the princess will learn from volunteers how they have transformed their services over the past few months.
The work being carried out for the Reading Ukrainian community includes running educational courses for children and running weekly coffee mornings at the center to provide practical advice and support on issues such as employment and housing.
The sessions also help build and strengthen social connections and a sense of community, which have been shown to be an important foundation for positive mental well-being.
