5 Hume: Made a couple of crucial free throws in his six yard box but couldn’t cope with Luton’s strikers

6 O’NIE: Won’t have seen many tougher nights in his career – but his fighting qualities showed. Has scored some excellent goal-line distances

4 gooch: Has given his best in a role as a centre-back that hardly plays to his strengths but fails several times in the air

5 Roberts: In the second half, he managed a few dribbles in the last third but his shot went wide

5 Neil: Never stopped running but was unable to get foot on ball and take pressure off the game

6 Ekwah: Has been a shining light over the last month and was the only Sunderland to match Luton’s physicality

4 Clarke: It wasn’t a night he came into play – he failed to pose a threat with a couple of shots in the second half

5 Amad: A disappointing end to his loan – had a few good runs but they came to nothing

4 Pritchard: Has ignored Saturday’s injury problem to keep his place in the side but failed to hold the ball well enough on the rare moments when Sunderland had possession

4 Gelhardt: Ended his loan stint with a performance that nailed it all – willing and committed but lacking in staying power
