Real Madrid meets Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Super Cup at Helsinki’s Olympic Stadium on Wednesday. Los Blancos will look to clinch a win in midweek and secure their first title of the new season.
Meanwhile, the reigning La Liga and European champions have been offered the chance to sign a Chelsea forward this summer. Elsewhere, Giorgio Chiellini has paid tribute to Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti.
With that in mind, here’s a look at the top Real Madrid transfer stories as of August 1, 2022:
Real Madrid offered the chance to sign Timo Wernah
Chelsea have offered Timo Werner Real Madrid via Marca, according to El Larguero. The Blues are keen to sack the German forward this summer and have offered the La Liga giants an opportunity to secure his services. Ancelotti could be interested in adding a new striker to his ranks this summer.
Los Blancos could sign the 26-year-old for €35m and were also given the chance to initially loan him out. The loan deal would come with an obligation to buy, while the club would also have to pay a loan fee. Werner is keen to leave Stamford Bridge to transform his career, so a move to the Santiago Bernabeu could tempt him.
Giorgio Chiellini pays tribute to Carlo Ancelotti
Giorgio Chiellini paid tribute to Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian enjoyed a brilliant second appearance at Real Madrid last season – winning the La Liga and UEFA Champions League double – and is expected to add to his successes next season.
After watching the La Liga giants defeat his former club Juventus, Chiellini revealed to Marca that he would have liked to have been coached by Ancelotti:
“The results speak for him; He’s a really good guy. I’m sad because I would have liked to have been coached by him because he’s one of the best in history and certainly one of the best in the last 30 years. At a club like Real Madrid, the coach doesn’t have to learn much; They have fantastic players and they have to keep the group as good as possible,” said Chiellini.
“You’ve seen in the last few games that Marcelo and Toni Kroos are sitting on the bench and talking to Carlo like old friends. You can see what Carlo can do and I’m fascinated by it.”
Chiellini continued to praise Los Blancos’ defence.
“I can’t say the best in the world, but they have a very good defense and another one. I also think Nacho, he’s improved a lot in recent years; he’s fantastic. In the beginning, a lot of people didn’t think about it He’s a good player but instead I can associate his name with (David) Alaba, (Eder) Militao or (Antonio) Ruediger because when he plays he’s fantastic and makes a big difference,” said Chiellini.
The Italian went on to say that Madrid have all their bases covered and deserve the success they’ve had over the years. He said:
“Real Madrid have these players all over the pitch, in defence, in midfield and also in attack, they’re all fantastic. It’s a very big club that deserves to win every Champions League in recent years.”
Borja Mayoral joins Getafe
Borja Mayoral has joined Getafe, AS report. The Spanish forward spent the second half of last season on loan at the club and put in an admirable performance.
His six goals in 18 games helped Getafe avoid relegation from La Liga. Mayoral hoped his form would earn him a place in Real Madrid’s first-team next season.
However, Ancelotti didn’t spare the player a single minute in the preparation, possibly suggesting his time at the Santiago Bernabeu was up. Getafe stepped in to give him a breather and have now secured the player’s services for €10m.
The 25-year-old has penned a five-year deal that will keep him at the Coliseum until 2027.
